ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian, who was held out of the loss Sunday to the Atlanta Falcons because of a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury, said Tuesday he believes he will be in the lineup Thursday night against the San Diego Chargers.Asked if he expected to start in Qualcomm Stadium, Siemian said Tuesday: Yeah, I think so. I think Im expecting to play.Interim coach Joe DeCamillis, who is filling in for Gary Kubiak while the coach sits out with a complex migraine condition, said Siemian would officially be listed as limited in practice Tuesday. He had a positive day (Monday) in practice and well try to progress with him and see where he ends up, DeCamillis said. ... Itll be a collective decision.Siemian suffered a bruised AC joint is his non-throwing shoulder just before halftime of the Broncos Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was held out of practice one day last week and then threw on a limited basis Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the Broncos made the decision to hold him out. After he was told he would be a game day inactive against the Falcons, Siemian -- on Kubiaks advice -- said he began to look at game video for the Chargers to get an early jump. In his last full game, he threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns in the Broncos Week 3 win at Cincinnati.Rookie Paxton Lynch, who was 23-of-35 passing for 223 yards to go with a touchdown and an interception in a choppy outing vs. Atlanta, would start if Siemian doesnt play against the Chargers. Lynch was also sacked six times by the Falcons, who had four sacks in their first four games combined. While Siemian said he expects to start against the Chargers, he doesnt have the most important vote. Broncos head trainer Steve Antonopulos, as well as the teams medical staff, will make the final call after watching Siemian throw Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. It is the same procedure the Broncos used last week before deciding on Lynch vs. the Falcons.I went through the whole week, preparing and trying to get (the shoulder) to Sunday, thinking I was going to play, Siemian said. I think thats got to be your mindset.Siemian and the rest of the players are working under different circumstances this week, given Kubiaks condition. Doctors recommended Kubiak take a week off from coaching, and he is scheduled to return to the team Monday morning.Id be lying to you if I said it wasnt an adjustment, said Siemian, who said he hasnt been in contact with Kubiak this week. I think we missed him for sure, but I think everybodys trying to do their best to pick up the slack -- coaches, players, everybody. Thats what were trying to do. Its not the same without him here -- he is involved in the plan, in the practices, then he coaches.Everybody has got to their part, pick up the slack, be a pro. Custom Brewers T-shirts . LOUIS -- St. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets are giving Ryan Fitzpatricks sprained left knee a few more days to get ready.Fitzpatrick will be a game-time decision to play against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday after being listed as questionable Friday.Hes getting better than he was, coach Todd Bowles said. I still have to see him work out Sunday to make that decision.Fitzpatrick injured his left knee at Miami last Sunday during New Yorks 27-23 loss. He participated on a limited basis during all three practice sessions this week.If hes healthy, youd like to see him practice fully, Bowles said. Hes injured, so we have to see how he feels. He has two more days to heal. Both Fitzpatrick and backup Bryce Petty split the first-team snaps evenly during practice throughout the week.Petty, a fourth-rounder last year, will get his first NFL start if Fitzpatrick is unable to play. He went 2 of 2 for 19 yards when he briefly relieved Fitzpatrick, who returned to the game and finished.I definitely dont take this for granted because I could have been in a whole lot of different scenarios, Petty said. Im having a blast where Im at right now. If it happens, great, Ill be ready to take over and produce.Petty appeared to be on the roster bubble during training camp, behind both Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith. The Jets also drafted Christian Hackenberg in the second round, so Pettys future with the team was in doubt. He injured his right shoulder in the preseason finale and sat out the first several weeks of the regular season while recovering. With Smith out for the season with a knee injury and Hackenberg still learning the ropes, Petty has gone from odd man out to potential starter.Ive kind of been in this role before, being the backup, Petty said. When I got called up a couple of weeks ago, as far as just being active, you get to do some reps with the team, and its not just looking at a game plan at a desk anymore. You actually get to see it, and thats big.As expected, center Nick Mangold has been ruled out for the third straight game with a sprained right ankle. Wesley Johnson will again start in place of Mangold, who had never previously missed more than two games in a row in his 11-year career. Also ruled out were linebackers Bruce Carter (quadriceps) and Josh Martin (concussion), cornerback Marcus Williams (ankle) and tight end Kellen Davis (elbow).Cornerback Buster Skrine (kneee) and offensive tackle Brandon Shell (shoulder) were both limited and listed as questionable.ddddddddddddLinebacker Darron Lee, the Jets first-round draft pick, will return after missing three games with a sprained ankle. He was a full participant in practice after being limited Thursday and sitting out Wednesday.Lee was leading the team in tackles with 35 at the time of his injury, and will slide back into a starting inside linebacker spot opposite David Harris. The former Ohio State star knew as soon as he was injured at Arizona on Oct. 17 that he would miss a few weeks. After the first 15 seconds, I was like, `Yeah, this is going to be pretty bad. Its going to keep me out, Lee recalled. Aside from the fact that it hurt really, really, really bad, Im just happy nothing broke. Im happy it was just a simple sprain.Lee insisted he is fully healed from the injury and ready to play.I wouldnt come back if I thought it was going to linger, he said.Wide receiver Devin Smith could make his season debut after missing the first nine games while recovering from a torn knee ligament last December that cut short his rookie year. Smith was activated from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday after practicing with the team for three weeks. If fully healthy, Smith could provide a speedy downfield threat for the Jets.Well work him in slowly and well see if he fits in Sunday or not, Bowles said. Im not going to reveal whether hes playing or not playing, but were working him getting back into the offense.Game notes After an early-season lull, RB Matt Forte has 349 yards from scrimmage and five TDs in his last three games while ranking seventh in the NFL with 634 yards rushing. Its pretty simple if you just watch the film, Forte said of his improved performance. There are holes there (on the offensive line). ... Bowles on DL Anthony Johnson, signed this week off New Englands practice squad and replacing veteran Jarvis Jenkins: Hes a swing defensive end, slash-nickel 4-3, 3-4-slash defensive end. Very active, very good in the run game. He has enough quickness to play some pass rusher and possibly a little bit at outside linebacker. His versatility was key.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
