RALEIGH, N.C. -- Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher doesnt figure the No. 19 Seminoles will have an easy time at North Carolina State on Saturday night. The Seminoles (5-3, 2/3 Atlantic Coast Conference) have lost three of five meetings in Raleigh, including one four years ago while carrying a No. 3 national ranking. Even the wins havent been easy, with Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston and the then-No. 1 Seminoles having to rally from 17 down in a 56-41 shootout in their last visit here in 2014.They like playing us, Fisher said of FSUs troubles in Raleigh. The season hasnt gone as expected for FSU, which was ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP Top 25 but lost in a rout at Louisville then at home to North Carolina on a last-play field goal. Last week, the Seminoles lost a tight contest with No. 3 Clemson, effectively taking them out of the Atlantic Division race. Now FSU is playing for bowl eligibility against the Wolfpack (4-4, 1-3).Were trying to control where we are and be where our feet are, tailback Dalvin Cook said. I love this group of guys. One of the best groups Ive been around and we have to seize the moment. I think we do a good job coming back and assessing things. Guys are embracing it.The Seminoles face a team desperately trying to find its footing after three straight losses. N.C. State has looked lost ever since missing a short field goal that wouldve beaten Clemson at the end of regulation in what became an overtime loss . The Wolfpack followed with a blowout loss at Louisville, then lost at home last week to a Boston College team that had lost 12 straight ACC games.Weve just got to get our confidence back, Wolfpack running back Matt Dayes said. I feel like the guys lost their confidence. But you know each day were getting it back every day. So were moving in the right direction right now. Well be fine this week.---Some other things to know about Saturdays Florida State-N.C. State game:TURNOVER MARGIN: The Seminoles lead the ACC with a plus-seven turnover margin and have forced a turnover in nine straight games dating back to last season. Theyre facing a team that has committed eight turnovers in its current three-game skid. If that trend continues, the Seminoles could be in for a big night.COOK CLOSE TO MARK: Cook leads all power-conference backs in rushing yards (1,069). He needs 193 yards to break Warrick Dunns career record of 3,959 yards. Cook ran for 138 yards with two touchdowns in last years meeting.KEEPING FRANCOIS UPRIGHT: Deondre Francois leads freshman quarterbacks in average passing yards (270.2) but has been sacked 23 times, including six last week against Clemson. Fisher has called Francois one of the toughest quarterbacks he had but the amount of hits he takes is becoming a concern.RUNNING IN PLACE: Dayes is the leagues No. 3 rusher at about 91 yards per game, but the Wolfpacks ground game has struggled with a combined 45 yards against Louisville and Boston College. N.C. State must get Dayes going early. I think weve just got to hit some and get our confidence back up going with it, center Joe Scelfo said. We cant have these past few games with this rushing attack. Its not going to cut it.SAMUELS TOUCHES: Somehow, North Carolina States do-everything all-ACC threat Jaylen Samuels had one offensive touch for 8 yards against BC. Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren said some of the plays were designed to get him the ball only to see the defense take him away. Obviously hes one of the best players in the conference and we cant allow the defense to take him away, offensive coordinator Eli Drinkwitz said. We have to do a better job, I have to do a better job, of making sure he gets the football. That responsibility falls on me.---Associated Press Writer Joe Reedy in Tallahassee, Florida, contributed to this report.---Follow Aaron Beard on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/aaronbeardap---More AP college football: http://collegefootball.ap.orgJonathan Marchessault Jersey . - Connor McDavid scored 53 seconds into overtime as the Erie Otters came from behind to defeat the visiting Guelph Storm 4-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action. NICEVILLE, Fla. -- Providence got physical with No, 7 Virginia and scored 52 points, the most anyone has had this season against the nations top-ranked defense. It wasnt enough.Virginia beat the Friars 63-52 to win the Emerald Coast Classic on Saturday night.Virginias very, very fundamentally sound, Providence coach Ed Cooley said. They know each others strengths, weaknesses -- very, very disciplined team. One of the most disciplined teams that weve played against in a long time. ... They are going to be hell for somebody to beat.London Perrantes, selected the tournaments most valuable player, and Darius Thompson scored 11 points each to lead the Cavaliers.Virginia (6-0) had been giving up only 39.2 points per game.Providence (4-2) topped the 51 that UNC Greensboro scored against the Cavaliers, but had trouble penetrating the tight defense that denies post touches and forces contested jumpers.Mamadi Diakite added 10 points for Virginia.Jalen Lindsey led Providence with 18 points. Rodney Bullock added 16, but that was short of his 20.4 average. They are physical, really physical, offensively and defensively, Perrantes said about the Friars. He said the rough play, though, will only help the Cavaliers prepare for other tough opponents that will be coming up.Cooley also had some high praise for Perrantes, saying he may be the most poised player Ive seen in college basketball in a long, long, long time.Virginia coach Tony Bennett credited the Cavaliers balance for getting them through some challenging moments in the game including a 9-0 Providence run to start the second half that cut Virginias lead to five points.ddddddddddddIts not who we play, its how we play, Bennett said. We played pretty solid, but we had a lapse that could be very costly.BIG PICTUREVirginia: Bolstered by strong performances from bench players Marial Shayok, the team scoring leader averaging 11.2 points going into Saturdays game, and freshman Kyle Guy, the Cavaliers have shown little affect from the graduation of four players from last seasons 29-win team.Providence: Losing to a highly touted Virginia team does nothing to take the luster off a strong early season showing. That includes a dramatic come-from-behind 60-51 victory over previously undefeated Memphis in the Emerald Coast semifinals.POLL IMPLICATIONSAfter breezing through four relatively weak opponents to open the season, Virginia did the same in its first major challenge, beating the Big Tens Iowa 74-41 in the semifinals Friday. Taking down Providence from the Big East can only enhance the Cavaliers chances of moving up from their No. 7 ranking if any of the teams ahead of them stumble.UP NEXT:Providence: The Friars host New Hampshire on Wednesday.Virginia: Host Ohio State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday.
