PHILADELPHIA -- A simple foul ball halted Ben Reveres hot streak. Revere will have surgery Tuesday on his broken right foot and is expected to miss six to eight weeks, leaving the Philadelphia Phillies looking for another centre fielder. "I think its going to be something thats going to take a while," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "If thats the case, well probably be looking for a centre fielder if theres one available." Revere broke his foot on a foul ball before hitting into a double play to end Philadelphias 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday. Before going down, Revere had been one of the top hitters in baseball over the past two months. He was hitting .347 since May 1 to raise his average from .200 to .305. Since June 12, Revere was hitting .407 (48 for 118). "Its one of those deals," Revere said Sunday. "Its part of the game. Ive probably hit a couple balls on the same spot a couple times and really nothing happened, except a bruise. But this was finally the one that cracked it." Acquired from Minnesota last off-season, Revere started slow with his new team. But he had solidified the leadoff role, allowing manager Charlie Manuel to move Jimmy Rollins around and have more lineup flexibility. Revere leads the Phillies with 22 stolen bases and his .338 on-base percentage is second to Michael Youngs .344. "Ben Revere has given us a lift," Amaro said. John Mayberry Jr. started the last two games in Reveres place and hit a game-tying, solo homer in a 2-1 win Saturday night, and had a game-winning RBI single in extra innings Sunday. Still, the Phillies will be looking for an upgrade. "John is a good centre fielder, hes solid," Amaro said. "Hes not a plus defender, so if we can get a better one, that would be good." While theyll be exploring the trade market for proven centre fielders, the Phillies are considering internal options in their minor-league system. Cesar Hernandez, who filled in a few games at second base last month when Chase Utley was injured, recently was moved to centre field at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will be heading to Double-A Reading to play the position exclusively. The Phillies are back in the playoff race after starting this month 9-4 to reach .500 at the All-Star break. Theyre 6 1/2 games behind NL East-leading Atlanta and 4 1/2 behind Cincinnati for the second wild-card spot. Wholesale Jerseys Sale . For a team that struggles to score runs, its nice to have a positive mood in the dugout. In the opposite dugout, the reigning World Series champions could only rue another game slipping away. We just got beat. We didnt play good, we didnt pitch good and we got beat.Daniel Coulombe (3-1) earned the win in relief of Ross Detwiler, though it was the Oakland offense that led the way. He was followed by three relievers in a span of four batters in the fourth inning, when the As marched nine to the plate and scored three times. When youre out there trying to find something in a big league game against big league hitters, it makes it real tough, Gee said. They scored a lot of runs, but its just one game.By the end, everybody in the As starting lineup had a hit. Stephen Vogt was 3 for 3 with two walks and two RBI, while Joey Wendle, Arismendy Alcantara and Ryon Healy drove alsso drove in two apiece.ddddddddddddWe were swinging at a lot of good pitches, said the As Brett Eibner, who began the season with Kansas City. We swung at pitches we want to hit and when you do that, the runs seem to pile up.Davis delivered the first big blow in the third inning when he splashed his 36th homer into the fountains in left field, a shot estimated at 447 feet. When the Royals matched him with three runs in the bottom half, the As bounced right back to score three more: Bruce Maxwell and Eibner opened the fourth with back-to-back singles, Wendle hit a sacrifice fly, and the As churned out four hits and two walks in taking a 6-3 lead.It was 8-3 when Semien went deep in the sixth, and Oakland merely piled on from there.Theres not much to say, Yost said.
