ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have boosted their offer to Von Miller, a person with knowledge of the proposal has told The Associated Press. The Super Bowl MVP has threatened to sit out the 2016 season without a long-term deal. The person, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because negotiations are ongoing, said the new proposal was submitted to Millers agent, Joby Branion, on Friday and moves up the date at which more money would be guaranteed. The sides have a week to work out a deal or Miller would only be allowed to play the 2016 season on the $14.26 million exclusive franchise tag tender, something hes insisted he wont do.A month ago, Millers camp agreed to the parameters of the Broncos $114.5 million, six-year offer that would have made Miller the NFLs highest-paid non-quarterback but they wanted more guaranteed money. The proposal included $38.5 million fully guaranteed over the first two years with the possibility of another $19.5 million that wouldnt kick in until Year 3.Miller prefers something more along the lines of Fletcher Coxs recent deal that guarantees him $55 million in the first nine months and about $63 million overall.Miller predicted peaceful contract negotiations after spearheading Denvers 24-10 win over Carolina in the Super Bowl but things got thorny last month. Miller cropped general manager John Elway from a photo on his Instagram account and said theres no way hed play this season on the franchise tag.His teammates continue to express confidence Miller will be in uniform when the Broncos open training camp later this month.I think it will happen because me and Elway went down to the wire last year, said receiver Demaryius Thomas, who signed a $70 million deadline deal in 2015.Mr. Elway will get it done, safety T.J. Ward predicted on NFL Total Access this week. I know Von is eager to get back with us. We miss him, he misses us. It is time to get going. NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The co-owner suing the Nashville Predators will have to plead his case against the franchises ownership before NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman after a judge refused his bid to keep his lawsuit in a Tennessee court.According to online court records, Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle issued her ruling Friday after hearing arguments July 20. But her ruling dismissing David Freemans request for a stay of arbitration had not been posted as of Friday afternoon. At least parts of the order likely will be sealed or redacted. The Tennessean first reported the ruling. The former Predators chairman and Commodore Trust sued Predators Holdings LLC and current team chairman Tom Cigarran on June 23 seeking $250 million in damages arguing his original 48 percent stake has been diluted. We are pleased with the ruling of Davidson County Chancery Court, as it reaffirms our position from the beginning that Mr. Freemans claim was meritless, frivolous, and that this issue should be resolved by the NHL as mandated by the NHL Constitution, the Predators said in a statement. The organization does not plan to comment further on this matter at this time. The lawsuit states that Freeman, through Commodore Trust, organized the Holdings investment group in 2007 to keep the Predators in Nashville. But it charges that some Holdings members have conspired to repay his dedication to the team and community by claiming that Commmodore owns less than one percent of Holdings.ddddddddddddhe lawsuit also states that members of the Predators ownership group have refused to treat Commodore Trust as an owner and have repudiated Holdings commitment to compensate plaintiffs in return for tens of millions of dollars of loan guarantees that kept the Predators solvent and in Nashville. The complaint names Cigarran the chief architect of this scheme.Freeman has been involved in other NHL arbitration cases over the past year but argued in the lawsuit that Bettman cannot be impartial because of his obligation to protect the league.Attorneys for Freeman and Commodore Trust argued July 20 before Lyle that league rules are so overly broad that they wrongly could allow the commissioner to arbitrate this case. They also argued Freeman is technically not a co-owner of the team but rather an investor in a trust whose business dispute should not be decided by the commissioner.Lawyers for both Predators Holdings and the NHL defended the commissioners impartiality and the leagues constitution, which gives Bettman the right to handle disagreements among both clubs and owners through arbitration. They also said Freeman agreed to arbitration when he signed consent agreements as part of buying the Predators in December 2007. ' ' '
