Scott Borthwick is on the cusp of the England Test team after a sustained string of scores for Durham in first-class cricket, says Bob Willis. Borthwick hit an unbeaten 188 at Nottinghamshire in the Specsavers County Championship on Monday, his third ton of the season, and has surpassed 1,000 runs in each of the past three campaigns. The left-hander made his Test debut as a leg-spinner during the 2013-14 Ashes in Australia but now plays as a frontline batsman for his county at No 3, the position at which Nick Compton is struggling for runs with England. Borthwicks form could put Nick Compton under pressure He has had a very good return over the last four Championship seasons, including this one, and the pitches in Durham arent like the Test match pitch so you have to work hard for your runs, Sky Sports expert Willis said of Borthwick on The Verdict. He is a whole lot better than when he had that slightly embarrassing debut - he has shown good character to come back from that and is right on the cusp of getting into the side.Borthwick will have to wait until at least the Pakistan series later this summer for a Test recall, with England sticking with the same 12-man squad for the third and final Investec Test against Sri Lanka. Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball has been the odd man out during the first two games, watching from the sidelines as Alastair Cooks charges secured thumping wins at Headingley and Emirates Riverside to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.England coach Trevor Bayliss told Sky Sports that he would be interested in having a look at Ball at some stage but Willis has urged the selectors to pick an unchanged XI for the clash at Lords from Thursday, June 9.Not for me, said Willis, when asked whether England should make any changes. Steve Finn is having a struggle at the minute but it would be harsh to drop him, particularly on his home ground. England should retain Steve Finn for the third Test at Lords, says Bob This is Test match cricket so England should play their best XI, plus it would be sacrilege in my mind to deny Stuart Broad and James Anderson the opportunity to rack up more wickets on their tally.Anderson reached 451 Test scalps with eight wickets during Englands second-Test win in Durham, just days after taking 10 in the victory at Headingley, and Willis says the 33-year-old could eclipse fellow seamer Glenn McGraths haul of 563 before he retires.Ive got Jimmy overtaking McGrath in three years time so he should get out there [at Lords] and get another 10-for! added Willis. Becoming the leading wicket taker among seamers bowlers is something for him to aim for. The Washington Redskins were dealt a big blow before the start of training camp when linebacker Junior Galette tore his right Achilles tendon and is out for the season.Galette missed last season with a torn left Achilles tendon. This latest injury came while preparing for camp. He tweeted about it Monday, and coach Jay Gruden confirmed Galettes status Tuesday.Junior did everything he had to do to get his Achilles ready to play this year, worked as hard as anybody in the weight room getting himself ready and was just doing some standard get-offs, I guess, and popped the other one, Gruden said on Richmond, Virginia, radio station ESPN 950. It happens. Its kind of weird because a lot of times when somebody tears one Achilles the next one comes soon after. The loss of Galette is a major setback to the defense, which added All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman during free agency. Galette was supposed to boost Washingtons pass rush. The coaching staffs plan was to keep Galette out of organized team workouts until camp as he made his way back from the left Achilles injury. In May, Galette said he was as excited as he has ever been during his football career, and Gruden called him a kid at Christmas waiting for his chance to play.Galette posted a series of tweets and videos of workouts on Monday and Tuesday with various messages about the injury.dddddddddddd He said on Instagram he was more explosive than before he tore his left Achilles tendon and on Twitter he promised to return better than ever. The 28-year-old last played for the New Orleans Saints in 2014 when he had 10 sacks and 45 tackles. The Redskins re-signed him to a $4 million, one-year deal during the offseason.Galette has 31 1/2 sacks and 128 tackles in 64 NFL games, all with the Saints.Without Galette, the Redskins will be leaning on second-year pro Preston Smith more than they had expected. Smith had 35 tackles last season as a rookie after Washington selected him in the second round of the 2015 draft.Galettes injury is more somber news for the Redskins, who on Monday announced they released Kyshoen Jarrett after the safety failed his physical. Jarrett sustained nerve damage to a shoulder in the regular-season finale against Dallas and did not participate in offseason workouts. The teams first workout is Thursday in Richmond.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
