ATLANTA -- Georgia Techs relentless spread-option attack with its triple-option potential is known for causing sleepless nights for defensive coordinators. Most of the Yellow Jackets yards usually come on the ground. This week Georgia Tech also has to worry about stopping the run when Southeastern Conference rushing leader Ralph Webb leads Vanderbilt against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.Webb ran for a career-high 211 yards and two touchdowns in the Commodores 47-24 win over Middle Tennessee last week. Webb, a junior, is only 711 yards rushing behind Zac Stacys Vanderbilt career record.I would think if we dont stop it well see it until our nose bleeds, said Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson of Webbs runs. Hell be downhill.Coach Derek Mason isnt afraid of giving the ball to Webb as much as possible.Youve got to go with what works for you, Mason said.Johnson said Vanderbilt is a power running team.Theyre gonna pack it in there and come get you, he said. Theyre not hard to find.Webb leads the SEC with 308 yards rushing after running for 1,152 yards in 2015.Georgia Tech (2-0) has dominated the series against Vanderbilt (1-1). The Yellow Jackets have won five straight in the series, including the most recent meeting in 2009, and are 11-0-1 against the Commodores since 1941.Vanderbilt center Barrett Gouger said this is a chance to end that ugly streak. Were facing a Georgia Tech team who we have not had the opportunity to beat in a while, Gouger said. ... So theres an opportunity in front of us to do something great.---Some other things to look for as Georgia Tech faces Vanderbilt:QB OK TO GO: Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas was held out of the second half of last weeks 35-10 win over Mercer with a minor injury but is expected to start this week. Backup quarterbacks Matthew Jordan and TaQuon Marshall each ran for a touchdown after Thomas left last week.HELP FOR WEBB: Webbs big game last week was Vanderbilts best rushing performance since Frank Mordica set the SEC record with 321 yards in 1978. Whats helping keep Webb fresh through two games this season is the emergence of Khari Blasingame, who moved from linebacker to running back. Blasingame has 87 yards rushing with a team-leading three touchdowns on the ground.LIGHTS ON: Vanderbilts offense finally showed signs of life aside from Webb last week with Kyle Shurmur completing passes to 10 different teammates. He also completed 13 of 14 passes in one stretch after missing on his first seven passes and finished with 113 yards passing and one TD. Vanderbilt needs balance to keep defenses from focusing on Webb. I just hope that the lights are on, Mason said. That we paid the light bill, and Kyle Shurmur can actually continue to push this offense forward.LIGHTS ON II: Johnson said sophomore running back Qua Searcy, who leads the Yellow Jackets with 87 yards rushing, performs better in games than in practice. There are some guys when the lights come on and the game starts they just kind of up their play a little bit and thats kind of what hes done, Johnson said.ACC VS SEC: Johnson acknowledged its impossible to ignore the conference rivalry that comes with the matchup. Its Georgia Tech vs. Vanderbilt, but thats part of it, he said. Were playing for Georgia Tech and I guess the league because people keep track of it. We hear a lot of it. Both schools were charter members of the SEC in 1933. Georgia Tech left the league after the 1963 season. This is the Yellow Jackets first regular-season game against a team from the SEC other than in-state rival Georgia since a 42-31 win at Mississippi State in 2009.---AP Sports Writer Teresa M. This time, the Bears trailed 39-24 at halftime, by 20 early in the second half and by 54-42 with 10:07 left.Weve been a second-half team all tournament, Bears coach Scott Drew said, but that one I guess took it to extremes. After getting shut down early, the Bears (6-0) shot 65 percent after halftime, a total boosted by the fact they got some easy baskets in transition and scored nine points off turnovers. They got strong play from their bench, something the Cardinals (5-1) just didnt have. McClure, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, had scored three points in the first five games but went 5 of 8 from the field with two 3s and two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to make it a three-point game. Then there was tournament MVP Johnathan Motley, who had 15 points despite drawing frequent double teams inside. He put the ball on the floor to drive by Anas Mahmoud for the go-ahead dunk with 2:49 left during the game-turning 21-5 run.A lot of teams when they get down like that they break apart, but we came together, McClure said. We came back and started chipping away. As we saw the lead go down, we started believing in ourselvesDonovan Mitchell scored 17 points for Louisville. The Cardinals shot just 33 percent (9 of 27) in the second half, with coach Rick Pitino pointing to mental fatigue as a factor in the second half after the Cardinals could not have played better basketball than we did inn the first half.dddddddddddd saw it in their legs, Pitino said. Anytime a team doesnt get in the right defense, the right press, you know its mental and physical fatigue. You see it right away. But I didnt make the substitutions. ... Its my fault. I saw they were fatigued. I was just hoping the timeouts could overcome it but it didnt.BIG PICTURELouisville: Pitino had a clear takeaway: hell have to use bench players more. Its my fault that we lost this championship, Pitino said. Its bitter. But that being said, well learn from it, and Ill learn from it as a coach to play these guys whether I think theyre good enough or not.Baylor: Drews team is 3-0 against ranked opponents. Hard to ask for much more in November.Makes my job harder making sure they stay focused, Drew said. I think the great thing is those are great quality wins. I know when we started his season we knew we played great teams early and had chances to get off to a great start. But weve got bigger goals.POLL IMPLICATIONSExpect Baylor to climb in next weeks AP Top 25 after beating No. 24 Michigan State and No. 10 Louisville on consecutive days, not to mention last weeks win against then-No. 4 Oregon. The Cardinals could slide a bit.BENCH PLAYBaylors bench strength included Terry Maston scoring 10 of his 12 points after halftime, while Jake Lindsey had steal-and-layup conversions on consecutive plays during the 21-5 run that gave Baylor its first lead. The Bears finished with a 36-18 advantage in bench points. Its tough to admit that youre tired, Mitchell said, but at the end of the day, we just didnt make enough plays at the right time.UP NEXTLouisville: The Cardinals host Purdue on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.Baylor: The Bears return home to face Sam Houston State on Wednesday night.---Follow Aaron Beard on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/aaronbeardap---More AP college basketball at http://www.collegebasketball.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-Top25 ' ' '
