BOULDER, Colo. -- Ninth-ranked Colorado won the Pac-12 South title with a 27-22 win over No. 21 Utah thanks to a senior-laden defense that forced two huge fumbles by Utes star running back Joe Williams. Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie also had a touchdown-saving tackle after a 93-yard kickoff return. The Buffaloes (11-2, 8-1, No. 9 CFP) will face sixth-ranked Washington in the conference championship next weekend. The Utes (8-4, 5-4) pulled to 27-22 on Demari Simpkins 7-yard TD catch with 1:34 remaining that capped an 80-yard drive that included two fourth-down conversions and was done largely without Williams, who hobbled off for the second time with an apparent shoulder injury. The 2-point conversion toss by Troy Williams was incomplete, and the Utes onside kick failed when Kabion Ento recovered for Colorado, which ran out the clock to complete its worst-to-first revival in one of college footballs biggest comeback stories in recent years.Thousands among the crowd of 52,301, the first sellout at Folsom Field since 2008, ignored the public address announcers plea to wait a minute before storming the field.Linebacker Kenneth Olugbode scooped up Joe Williams second fumble and returned it 10 yards for a TD that made it 27-16 early in the fourth quarter. In the third quarter, Awuzie recovered when Williams fumbled at the Colorado 2 after a 12-yard gain.Liufaus 6-yard TD toss to Shay Fields on the final play of the third quarter was the seniors 60th, tying Cody Hawkins school record and breaking a 13-13 tie.Kyle Fulks returned the ensuing kickoff 93 yards but a diving Awuzie knocked Fulks out of bounds at the 3, a tackle that proved pivotal when the Utes had to settle for a field goal that made it 20-16.THE TAKEAWAYUtah: The Utes had another fine season but they lost three of their last four games with close defeats at home to Washington and Oregon before losing in Boulder for the first time since Sept. 28, 1957.Colorado: The Buffaloes roll into the Pac-12 title game on the strength of their first six-game winning streak since 1996, their first 10-2 record since 2001 and their first undefeated record at home since 1994.POLL IMPLICATIONSThe Buffs could inch up in the poll and the Utes did nothing to merit slipping.UP NEXTUtah: Despite a second straight loss, the Utes await another bowl bid, their 11th in 14 seasons under coach Kyle Whittingham.Colorado: The Buffaloes will face Washington in the Pac-12 championship game next Friday in Santa Clara, California.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25---Follow Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapletonSteve Young Jersey . SEATTLE -- Richard Sherman took the opportunity last week to criticize NFL officiating for what he deemed incorrect calls, almost daring the league to fine him for being so outspoken.Sometimes the truth is the truth, its the truth, the All-Pro cornerback said last week. It is what it is. This is basically reality TV, so I guess Im good for ratings probably. So it seemed almost fitting that just a few days after making some bold comments, Sherman was at the center of another officiating flap in Monday nights 31-25 win over the Buffalo Bills.Once again, NFL refs were in the spotlight of a prime-time game that left the league scrambling to provide explanations of what happened and the mistakes that were made.Any time Dean Blandino, the NFLs head of officiating, has to send an explanatory tweet during a game about a mistake, its not a good look for the league. We are absolutely going to address it, Blandino told NFL Network late Monday night. Anytime you have a sequence like that at any point during the game, we want to see what happened and just walk through the steps of where the breakdown was. Regardless of the outcome of the game, we are going to address the situation with our crew.Officiating controversy and Monday night games in Seattle have become almost a regular occurrence. For the third time in five seasons, the day after a Seattle Monday win was spent breaking down the role of officiating mistakes in the Seahawks victory. The latest black eye for the refs came when Walt Andersons crew chose not to flag Sherman for unnecessary roughness as he attempted to block Dan Carpenters field goal attempt at the end of the first half. Sherman was penalized for being offside -- and was determined to be unabated to the kicker -- but the play was not stopped in time to prevent Sherman from getting a piece of the kick and crashing recklessly into Carpenters legs.Whenever it comes to player safety, we want to look at these fouls, Blandino said. Its something that we stress with our referees when it comes to the quarterbacks and the kickers with roughing the kicker and roughing the passer, so we certainly dont want to miss calls like that. The fact that no unnecessary roughness call was made created a whole other set of problems -- including an injury timeeout against Buffalo that forced Carpenter off the field -- that werent handled well by Andersons crew.dddddddddddd. Most damaging for the Bills was the play clock not being properly reset as Carpenter lined up for a second field goal attempt, from 48 yards, and Buffalo being called for delay of game. After the 5-yard penalty, Carpenters attempt was wide right. What seemed to be a chaotic mishandling by officials at the time proved critical in the final moments of the fourth quarter when Buffalo drove inside the Seattle 10 and needed a touchdown rather than just a field goal. Were disappointed we didnt pull it out at the end there, but mistakes happen in this league, theres no question about it, Buffalo coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday. But you know, I think everybody saw what they want to see. And I dont know if I really need to comment any further on it.In hindsight, there seems to be agreement that Sherman should have been flagged for unnecessary roughness. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said as much on Tuesday morning during his weekly radio show on KIRO-AM in Seattle, while noting that there appeared to be no whistle blown and Sherman was finishing off the play.He should avoid the contact if he hears the whistle, Carroll said. Otherwise, play the play out. Try and block the kick. But Anderson, the person in charge of making that call, determined Shermans actions werent worthy of the personal foul penalty. Andersons explanation was that it didnt appear that Sherman had an opportunity to avoid the contact from when the play was shut down. One of the things were just looking for is does the player have a chance to realize that were shutting the play down from that standpoint and whether or not he has an opportunity to avoid any type of contact once he realizes that were getting the play shut down, Anderson said. I know it was loud out there for everybody. Thats probably what took us a little bit of time to get everything shut down. But thats what were looking at.---AP Sports Writer John Wawrow in Buffalo, New York, contributed to this report.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
