Brisbane remain in the hunt for a top-four finish after stunning NRL leaders Melbourne with a dominant 26-16 victory at AAMI Park.Looking to atone for a crushing 48-6 loss at the hands of the Storm in round 17, the Broncos produced some of their best football of the season on Friday night to secure their fourth-straight win, moving level with the Cowboys and Bulldogs in fourth spot on the table. Two first-half tries to centre Tom Opacic set the tone for Brisbane, who dominated possession in the opening term and withheld a determined Storm outfit after the break to ensure the race for the top four goes down to the wire. The visitors clicked into gear from the outset, showing sublime ball-handling skills to stun the home side twice in early stages.Sam Thaiday celebrated his 250th NRL game in style thanks to a stunning one-handed offload that caught the Storm defence off-guard to set up Opacics opening try after three minutes.Jordan Kahus acrobatic effort in the right corner doubled his teams advantage five minutes later.A rare foray deep into Brisbane territory resulted in Melbourne second-rower Tohu Harris reaching over from close range after 26 minutes to halve the early deficit. But the visitors struck back with a Kahu penalty goal before cashing in on Marika Koroibetes dropped ball deep in Storm territory, allowing Opacic to score his second four-pointer with two minutes left in the half.Melbourne looked more energetic after the break but could not wear down Brisbanes defence. The Broncos made them pay with a polished back-line move that sent Darius Boyd over for a 20-4 lead after 55 minutes.Ben Hampton appeared to breathe life into the Storm when he crossed for his first try of the season with 15 minutes left. But fortune favoured Brisbane when a kick from broken play rolled into the Storms in-goal area, with Cooper Cronk slipping in pursuit to allow Jai Arrow to wrap up the match. The Storm could have secured the minor premiership with a victory, but now face the prospect of a winner-takes-all clash with Cronulla for the JJ Giltinan Shield in the final round, provided the Sharks beat the Roosters on Saturday night.Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett was pleased to see his side take control of the match from the beginning. Our start was spot on - it had to be, said Bennett. They (Melbourne) always start well. You dont want to give them momentum and the boys were on from the kickoff. They kind of carried on from where they left off against Canterbury, so that was good.Bennett also praised the pressure and attitude his players applied right across the ground.Captain Corey Parker expressed pride in Brisbanes performance against the ladder-leading Storm. We had a game plan that we thought, if we could execute, wed be right in it, said Parker. Its just really satisfying to be able to do that, particularly against a good side at (their) home. They stuck it to us and it was a good game of footy going on but 1-17 turned up and we got the job done. While full of praise for the victors, Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy lamented another lethargic showing from his charges after similar recent first-half performances against South Sydney and Canberra.I just thought we were really poor defensively in the first half, said Bellamy. Especially at the start of the game, they scored two tries in the first seven or eight minutes. That put us behind the eight ball, to be quite honest, added Bellamy. We didnt really improve too much defensively in the first half. Our second half was a lot better but, by then, the horse had bolted.Evgeny Svechnikov Red Wings Jersey . Its a simple process to rebuild that, and thats what were going to do. But its not an easy process.Over the past two decades, the Hoosiers (6-7, 2-6 Big Ten) have tried everything to improve the defense -- coaching changes, philosophical changes, lineup changes, even schematic changes. When nothing worked, Allen became Indianas third defensive coordinator in four years. He takes over a group that allowed more points, touchdowns, total yards and yards passing than any Big Ten team last season. The Hoosiers also allowed the second-highest rushing total in the league.Allen will take the traditional nickel package and use it as his primary defense, substituting a hybrid safety for a linebacker in hopes of getting better coverage against spread offenses while still being stout enough to hold up against the run.The new defense simplifies everything, linebacker Marcus Oliver said. It allows us not to think but to play fast and to play hard. If you have to think, you dont know what youre doing. Will this finally be the game-changer Indiana has been looking for? Allen believes it will work, and perhaps, more importantly, so do the players.Well have more athletes out there, well be more versatile and that nickel guy can cover and help you off the edge, cornerback Rashard Fant said. Its exciting. Here are some other things to watch this season:DEVINNE INTERVENTIONIndiana replaced 2,000-yard rusher Tevin Coleman with 1,000-yard rusher Jordan Howard last season.dddddddddddd. Now the Hoosiers are asking another 1,000-yard runner, Devine Redding to replace Howard. The 5-foot-10, 208-pound Redding is smaller than his predecessors but has added about five pounds this season to survive the weekly grind. Hes also on the right trajectory, rushing for more than 500 yards in the last three games of 2015.FINISHING TOUCHIndiana won six times last season and they would have had nine -- had they protected a 31-point third-quarter lead against Rutgers and prevented Michigan and Duke from forcing overtime with touchdowns in the final minute of regulation. Coach Kevin Wilson is hoping last seasons tough lessons will pay off with better finishes in 2016.QUICK STARTIndiana had to win its final two games -- on the road -- to become bowl eligible last season. This year, theyll need a fast start to wind up in the mix. After a trip to Florida International, Indiana hosts Ball State and Wake Forest before things get very difficult in Big Ten. They host Michigan State on Oct. 1, then visit Ohio State on Oct. 8 and host Nebraska on Oct. 15.SEASON OPENERIndiana is trying to find a successor for quarterback Nate Sudfeld. The battle is likely to come down to Richard Lagow, a highly touted junior college transfer now at his third Division I school, and junior Zander Diamont, who has more experience with Indianas offense. But a winner may not be declared before the Hoosiers visit FIU on Sept. 1.PREDICTIONThe Hoosiers seem set for a 6-6 season. That game against the Spartans is a big one, and the Hoosiers cant afford to overlook anyone, including Rutgers on Nov. 5 and Penn State on Nov. 12. ' ' '
