At least, for the first three and a half hours. Thats about the time the Laredo Lemurs exploded for five runs in the 11th inning to put a halt to the party - and a Goldeyes series sweep. Sawyer Carroll hit a three-run homer off rookie Winnipeg reliever Wes Alsup in the 11th and that was the exclamation point on an afternoon in which Laredo outhit the Goldeyes 20-14 and outscored them 13-8. With the win, Laredo put a halt to a two-game losing streak in Winnipeg. They also dashed the Goldeyes hopes of a series sweep. Laredo is now 11-2 on the season, first in the American Associations South Division. The Goldeyes fell to 10-3, still first in the North Division. "A lot of offence, baby," said Rick Forney after the game. "We just didnt have much choice with the bullpen today. We just ran out of bullets. "They got to Justin (starter Garcia) today. They did a good job and had some good at bats. I thought we swung the bat real well and some of guys really started to produce some offence today. For the most part the bullpen was good today. We got six solid innings out of the bullpen, but then we had to put Wes in a tough spot in the 11th. When we failed to score in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out, that really set us back." This game was a slugfest, almost from the opening pitch. In the top of the first, Laredos leadoff man Marcos Rodriguez doubled and eventually came around to score on a double by John Allen. The Goldeyes tied it in the bottom of the first on a solo homer by Leonard Davis and thats how most of the afternoon went: One team would take a lead and the other would tie it.dddddddddddd After the Lemurs scored two in the top of the second, the Goldeyes scored three in the bottom of the second. Laredo took a 5-4 lead in the top of the third, but the Goldeyes made it 6-5 in the bottom of the third as Tim Smith and Luis Alen drove in runs. Laredo tied it at 6-6 in the top of the fourth and then took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fifth, but Alen drove in Casey Haerther with a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at seven apiece. Laredo went ahead 8-7 in the seventh, but Fehlandt Lentini led off with a solo homer in the eighth and the teams were tied at eight. From there, the bullpens took over until the 11th when the Lemurs scored five times off Alsup. Alen was the hitting hero for the Goldeyes with four hits on five trips, a run scored and two driven in. Alen is now hitting .378. Davis went three-for-six with two runs scored and an RBI while Lentini went two-for-six with a homer, a run scored and two RBI and Smith went two-for-five with a run scored and one driven in. Carroll, who put the game on ice with that three-run blast in the 11th, went four-for-seven with a run scored and three driven in. Mike Sheridan had four hits in six trips, scored three and drove in one. Alsup (0-1, 14.54 ERA) was the losing pitcher for Winnipeg, while Bradley Blanks (2-0, 0.96 ERA) got credit for the win. The Goldeyes will have a day off on Thursday before they welcome their archrivals, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to Shaw Park on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. ' ' '
