STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State is glad to move on to its next game after the disappointment of losing a 30-27 stunner to Central Michigan last week on an untimed final play that officials admitted they never should have awarded. At home Saturday against Pittsburgh, the Cowboys (1-1), who fell out of the Top 25, will face another difficult opponent thats off to a 2-0 start. Were looking forward to getting back to work, OSU coach Mike Gundy said. The players attitudes were really good. A good football team will be in here Saturday. Weve felt like theyre a team that should be ranked in the top 25 with what they have. It will be a real challenge for us in a lot of different areas.Pitt is coming off a thrilling 42-39 win over Penn State last week, in which it built a big early lead and held off a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt.Coach Pat Narduzzi isnt concerned with how Oklahoma State will respond, just with ensuring that his guys dial up the same intensity they did last week for a big rivalry contest.Im not worried about (Oklahoma States) mindset, I only worry about our mindset, Narduzzi said. I would guess they are going to be pretty upset and angry. Our job as coaches is to make sure that we are all up for the game. Were going to treat it just like we did last week. I told the team this is a big game because its our next game. Were going to be excited for this one.Five things to watch for on Saturday:1. RUNNING ON EMPTY: One focus for Oklahoma State this week is to get the running game back on track. After gaining just 50 yards on 26 total carries last week, with running backs carrying the ball just 15 times while quarterback Mason Rudolph threw it 44, the Cowboys are hoping for a more balanced attack that includes more success on the ground. We have to find a way to move the ball on the ground some, in order to set up everything else we do, Gundy said. Weve got to continue to get better at it. We abandoned the run too early in the last game.2. CONNERS BACK: Pitt junior running back James Conner is in fine form after missing nearly all of last season recovering from a serious knee injury and Hodgkin lymphoma. He leads the potent Pitt running game, gaining 117 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries last week, while also leading all Panther receivers with four catches for 29 yards and another score. A great story, and a good player, Gundy said of Conner. Its pretty amazing, when you watch him, to think that hes gone through that.3. CENTURY MARK: Oklahoma State sophomore receiver Jalen McCleskey enjoyed a career game against Central Michigan last week, catching 11 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown, the first time this season a Cowboy hit 100 yards receiving. His previous personal bests were five receptions and 58 yards. He also returned two punts for 36 yards. They were trying to take away our outside guys and he did a great job of stepping up and moving us down the field, Rudolph said of McCleskey.4. RETURN TO SENDER: Sophomore Quadree Henderson has been a dangerous weapon for Pittsburgh as a kick returner, leading the nation with a 53.5-yard average on kick returns. He had a 96-yard return for a touchdown in the opener against Villanova and then took off on an 84-yarder in the fourth quarter last week against Penn State that set up what became the game-winning touchdown. Henderson has also thrived as a receiver, catching seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing four times for 58 yards.5. TURNOVER BATTLE: Both teams have been among the NCAAs best at creating turnovers so far this season. The Cowboys lead the nation with five fumble recoveries and are tied for sixth with six total turnovers, along with Pitt, who has recovered four fumbles and pulled down two interceptions. Panther linebacker Mike Caprara, who pounced on two of those fumbles last week against Penn State, ranks second in the nation in recoveries.Chuck Foreman Vikings Jersey . Hughes parents, Greg and Virginia, were seen to shake their heads when Bollinger offered his denial.Haddin was queried on tactical discussions about how to dismiss Hughes, given that he had established himself at the crease by lunch. Haddin stated he had discussions with the then NSW coach Trevor Bayliss about how to change the flow of the game, but denied any specific plans to bowl short. The field placings used by Haddin after lunch - interpreted by some as to cater for short bowling - were, he said, devised to reduce the scoring rate. Haddin also stated that if he had wished to deliver a short-pitched attack on Hughes, he would have used other bowlers, pointing out that the spinner Nathan Lyon was operating opposite Abbott at the time. However David Warner, in an earlier statement offered to the inquest, stated that the NSW team had previously formulated a plan for Hughes. The team had developed a plan of how to get Phil out, he said. Basically it was to bowl at or over leg stump and get Phil moving backwards instead of forwards.Asked initially to recall events, Haddin spoke vividly of the moment Hughes was struck. It was like something Ive never witnessed before in my life, he said. It was the noise. The groan. The way he fell straight down, motionless without trying to break the fall. As part of the first days proceedings, the inquest viewed footage of the over in which Hughes was hit. Members of the Hughes family left the room at this time.Proceedings had opened with addresses from the NSW Coroner, Michael Barnes QC, and the Counsel assisting the Coroner, Kristina Stern, SC. Barnes spoke about the toll the weeks events were likely to take on the Hughes family in particular. It is important to note that Phillip Hughes was, before anything elsee, a son and a brother, he said.ddddddddddddTo his family, who have been devastated, he was much more than a fabulous cricketer. I offer them my sincere condolences. I can appreciate these proceedings may be harrowing for them. It may exacerbate their raw pain. I deeply regret that, and only hope the improved safety that may result justifies that pain.Cricket is not generally seen as dangerous or violent. But that does not mean cricket cant be made safer.Sterns address laid out numerous avenues of inquiry, and also outlined the timeline of events from the moment Hughes was struck to the time he made it into surgery at St Vincents Hospital about an hour later. However she made clear that the type of injury sustained by Hughes meant, None of the chronologies set out above had any impact on the death of Phillip Hughes, which appears to have been inevitable from the point of impact. That left much focus to be placed on events leading up to the ball that struck Hughes. Concerns have been raised in relation to the number of short balls that were delivered by the pace bowlers to Phillip Hughes, Sterns said. And as to tactics during the afternoon session that day.In particular, concern has been expressed that the NSW team may have been bowling short at Phillip Hughes for a good majority of the time after lunch, in order to restrict the run rate and get him out. And as to whether the umpires should have taken steps to prevent this. There has also been some concern expressed as to any sledging that may have taken place that day. [Phillips brother] Jason Hughes has, with the benefit of the video footage available, prepared a ball by ball analysis of the short-pitched deliveries that will assist your honour in understanding these issues. Before the inquest began, Hughes manager James Henderson delivered a statement on behalf of the family. This is going to be a very, very, very difficult week for Greg, Virginia, Jason and Megan, Henderson told reporters outside the court. They havent been looking forward to this week, and theyre hoping that perhaps there will be a positive that comes out of Phillips death as we go through the next five days in the Coroners court.James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia chief executive, also spoke before the inquest began. Sutherland had delayed his departure for the next round of ICC meetings in Cape Town, South Africa, in order to be present for the start of the inquest. We never want to see a tragedy like this happen on the cricket field, and to that end we have the utmost respect for the coronial inquest process that we will need to go through this week, he said. We wont be providing a running commentary dealing with specific issues through the week, but we do hope something good comes from this process. The inquest continues on Tuesday with further witness examinations.
