CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Pro Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis says the Carolina Panthers have to understand their window is closing if they hope to achieve their goal of returning to the playoffs and Super Bowl.Carolina is 1-4 heading into Sundays game at New Orleans (1-3). None of the previous four teams that started 1-5 or worse after reaching the Super Bowl has made the playoffs, according to Elias Sports Bureau. That includes the 2004 Panthers, who began 1-7 after losing to New England in Super Bowl XXXVIII.Whenever you are put in a position that we put ourselves in right now as a football team, to start our season out 1-4 when we had so many high expectations coming into this season, without a doubt we have to realize everything that we had set forth to accomplish this season is still in front of us, Davis said on Thursday. But we also have to realize the window is closing. We cant continue to lose football games and try to accomplish the things we want to accomplish as a football team. The Panthers are three games behind Atlanta (4-1) in the NFC South. They are 0-2 in the division with losses to the Falcons and Tampa Bay.Every game moving forward is a must-win game for us as a football team, Davis said. Were not focused in on what could happen late in the season. Were not looking for this to be another 3-8-1 start and pray and hope that other people do our jobs for us. Its all about taking care of our job right now and controlling what we can control. The 2014 Panthers started 3-8-1 but trailed Atlanta and New Orleans by only a game and a half with four games remaining. They won out, including victories against the Falcons and Saints, to win the NFC South and make the playoffs with a 7-8-1 record.Carolina coach Ron Rivera said his team understands the sense of urgency and how to deal with adversity. He offered a reminder of the 2014 team that didnt win for two months, as well as last years team that started 14-0 after losing star receiver Kelvin Benjamin during training camp.I think they do get the sense of urgency, but theres some things we cant control, Rivera said. So the biggest thing we can do is control what we can, and thats us, what we do when we get on the football field. Thats all we can do.I know its a tough situation. I know people wish we were 4-1. S---, I wish we were 4-1. But the bottom line is were not. We are what our record says we are. So we have to go out and take them one at a time. We have to play each game as if its the most important game were about to play. Cheap Adidas Superstar Supercolor . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Jack Gibbs scored 25 points and Peyton Aldridge added 21 points and seven rebounds to help lift Davidson to 70-55 win over Missouri in a losers bracket game of the Tire Pros Invitational on Friday. The Wildcats (2-1) bounced back from a deflating loss to Clemson on Thursday with an overwhelming performance against Missouri. Sparked by its 3-point shooting, Davidson jumped out to a 17-point lead early in the first half and never looked back. This is a challenging tournament and we accepted the opportunity to come here because we wanted to be pushed, we wanted to be challenged, we wanted to find out how good we are, said Davidson coach Bob McKillop. Certainly these two games, Clemson and Missouri exposed our strengths, exposed our weaknesses and gave us the opportunity to get better.Missouri, coming off an overtime loss to No.11 Xavier a day earlier, made runs late in the first and second halves but could not an offensive flow to keep up with Davidson.Davidson converted 44 percent from the field and 10 of 30 3-point attempts. Missouri made just 3 of 16 3-pointers.Forward Kevin Puryear led the Tigers with 12 points and six rebounds while Cullen Vanleer added 11 points and Reed Nikko came off the bench to contribute 10 points. The Wildcats set the tone early by hitting five of their first eight 3-point attempts to take 26-9 lead in the opening eight minutes. Four different Davidson players drained 3-pointers during that run. Gibbs converted two 3-pointers to give the Wildcats a lift.Missouri (1-2) pulled within seven points of the lead late in the first half. But Davidson put together a 9-0 run as the Tigers went scoreless the final 4:30 off the half and went into halftime trailing 37-23.ddddddddddddWe harped on defensive intensity last night and this morning because we didnt play well defensively as a team or individually, Gibbs said. As a unit we were in position better than we were against Clemson. That was one of the main things because if theyre making shots, its tough to get our offense going when you have to grab it off the rim. That makes our offense go.BIG PICTUREDavidson: The Wildcats are streaky shooters but when on they can put a lot of points in hurry. They hit six of their first eight 3-point attempts to jump out to a 17-point lead in the first eight minutes and never looked back. Gibbs was outstanding throughout much of the game as was Aldridge. The score could have been even more lopsided had the Wildcats not had a long stretches of time where either they couldnt score or they were careless with the ball.Missouri: After losing to No.11 Xavier by one point in overtime Thursday, the Tigers came out flat against Davidson and never recovered. Leading scorer Frankie Hughes was silent much of the game, going 1 for 11 for two points and three turnovers. Sophomore guard Terrence Phillips, who played brilliantly in the loss to Xavier didnt have a field goal and finished with one point.UP NEXTDavidson: The Wildcats will take on the winner of the Arizona State-Tulane game in the fifth-place game of the Tire Pros Invitational on Sunday.Missouri: The Tigers will meet the loser of the Arizona State-Tulane game in the seventh-place game of the Invitational on Sunday.
