SEATTLE -- Raul Ibanez doesnt know when his final game will be and hes playing like it wont be anytime soon. Seattles 41-year-old outfielder hit his 22nd home run to help Felix Hernandez win his ninth game in the Mariners 11-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Ibanezs home run -- on a 0-2 pitch from Red Sox starter Jon Lester (8-5) -- broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth. It was his seventh go-ahead home run this season and extended his hitting streak to 13 games. "At some point last year (with the Yankees), I started acting like it was my last game," said Ibanez, who turned 41 on June 2. "I asked myself the questions, How would I act, what would I think about, how would I prepare? I wanted to enjoy it as much as I could. "Im 41. You cant play this game forever. I used that approach. Hopefully, I can share that approach with the younger guys, telling them, Hey, time goes by really fast. Enjoy this. " Ibanez needs eight more home runs to pass Ted Williams for the most home runs by a 41-year-old. Williams hit 29 at age 41 in 1960, his final season with the Red Sox. "Hes found -- almost -- the fountain of youth," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "Hes at 22 home runs tonight. Obviously, it speaks to a lot of hard work." Hernandez (9-4) held the Red Sox to two runs and six hits over seven innings. He walked two, struck out six and maintained his 2.69 ERA, second lowest in the American League behind teammate Hisashi Iwakumas 2.60. "The offence came today," Hernandez said. "Raul do the same thing hes been doing for like two months, and we win the game." Hernandez allowed two or fewer runs for the 13th time in 19 starts. "He wasnt as tough as Ive seen him in the past when he was throwing 96-97, but he still is a great pitcher," Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia said. "He goes out there and throws all his pitches for strikes and still gets of lot of swings and misses." Justin Smoak had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs for Seattle. Michael Saunders had two doubles and three RBIs. Seattle pounded out 15 hits in winning for the fifth time in seven games. Boston has lost three straight, matching its season high. Entering the game, the Mariners had just two hits in its previous 32 at-bats with runners in scoring position, and were on an 0-for-19 run. After three innings, the run had grown to 0 for 25. Kendrys Morales opened the fourth with a hard single to left. Kyle Seager followed with a single that just ticked off second baseman Dustin Pedroias glove. The ball trickled into right field, allowing Morales to reach third. With one out, Smoak finally broke the stretch of futility with double just inside the third-base bag. Morales scored and Seager advanced to third. Mike Zunino walked to load the bases and Saunders walked to drive in Seager. Smoak said failing to hit in the clutch is harder "because you want it so bad." "You put a lot of pressure on yourself instead of going up there relaxed looking for a good pitch to hit and putting a good swing on it," Smoak said. "Ive been watching Raul do it all the time, and (Kendrys) Morales and Seag." Boston responded in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. Daniel Nava had a RBI single and Brock Holt raced home from third on a wild pitch to make it 2-2. Ibanezs leadoff home run in the fifth gave the Mariners the lead for good. He has hit eight home runs in his last 13 games and the Mariners have hit at least one home run in 16 straight games. "I felt I executed that pitch fairly well, enough to not have that result," Lester said of his cutter to Ibanez. "Obviously, he was sitting on it. Its frustrating because it is 0-2, but it was the pitch I wanted to go to." Ibanez has 203 doubles and 149 home runs as a Mariner. He is one home run from joining Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Jay Buhner and Alvin Davis as the only Mariners with at least 200 doubles and 150 home runs. Smoak, Ibanez, Brad Miller and Nick Franklin added RBI hits. Mike Napoli and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each had RBI doubles in the eighth. NOTES: With RHP Jeremy Bonderman designated for assignment Monday, the Mariners need a starter Thursday. "Well be pulling someone up for that," Manager Eric Wedge said. It could be RHP Erasmo Ramirez, coming back from a triceps strain, or RHP Brandon Maurer, who began the year with the big club. . Wedge said Tom Wilhelmsen has worked his way back into the closer role after a three-week absence for inconsistency. . The Red Sox were without Jacoby Ellsbury (left wrist) and Shane Victorino (left hamstring), so manager John Farrell said he had to go with a "makeshift" lineup. Ellsbury is working on a season-high 17-game hit streak and has a major league-high 36 steals. . LHP Andrew Miller is expected to have surgery for a damaged left foot ligament and likely will be out for the season.Packers Super Bowl Jerseys . -- Claudio Bieler hadnt scored since early September, and not from the run of play since mid-July. Its unprecedented. Wouldnt it be amazing if it actually went to an end of season play-off? A play-off before the play-offs? We look at the permutations in a thrilling Championship promotion race Burnley have gone 21 games unbeaten, Brighton went 21 games unbeaten at the start and Middlesbrough had a spell where they didnt concede a goal for 11 games! Theyve all been outrageous. Im fearful for the team that misses out and theyll end up being disappointed going into the play-offs. When you tie this in with Leicester Citys story in the Premier League, its been one of the best seasons ever. Brighton v Derby, Sky Sports 1, Monday, 2.15pmMonday will be a weird day of work for me. Im at Burnley, but its a double header so well be watching this game from the Turf Moor studio. It will be interesting to see the atmosphere change, depending on what Brighton do.What can you say about Brighton? They are just phenomenal. To win seven of their last eight games under this sort of pressure is quite astonishing. Highlights from the Sky Bet Championship between Charlton and Brighton Derby are safe in the play-offs now and I dont think the urge to finish fourth instead of fifth will be a great enough incentive for them to raise their game against Brighton, who will be pumped for this. Dale Stephens has had an outstanding season. Hes a proper player. Hes box-to-box, puts his foot in and chips in with a few goals. Chris Hughton has found a brilliant midfield formula with him and Beram Kayal - its been one of the secrets behind their success. I think Stephens will get the winner.OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-0 (5/1 with Sky Bet) Burnley v QPR, Sky Sports 1, Monday, 4.30pmI cant see Burnley slipping up now. Burnley know its all about winning and going through the right processes. Their process is perfect in every department of their play. Theyve got goals and they are brilliantly well organised without the ball. Burnley have the full package, including the right mentality - they dont get too emotional. Highlights of the Championship match between Preston and Burnley QPR have only won four games away from home all season and they must have their eyes on next season.dddddddddddd#160;OLLIE PREDICTS: 3-1 (10/1 with Sky Bet) Walsall v Fleetwood, League One, Sky Sports 1, Monday, 12pmThis is going to be very tough for Fleetwood, as Walsall are having a tremendous season and are chasing down Burton for that final automatic spot. Home win.OLLIE PREDICTS: 2-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet) Ollies earlier predictions...Bolton v Hull, SaturdayI fear for Bolton. Theres a lot of changes going on there and the on-the-pitch stuff probably is taking a back seat as they plan for next season. The club have a huge job on their hands to rebuild. Hull seem in a good place now after a good win in midweek. Theyll be looking to just keep things ticking over in the next few weeks. Abel Hernandez looks a good shout for the opening goal - hes hit a bit of a purple patch. OLLIE PREDICTED: 0-2Sheffield Wednesday v Cardiff, SaturdayCardiff need to approach this game like a play-off second leg. They must win to keep their season alive. I thought Sheffield Wednesday had completed the job last weekend, but Darren Bents late goal has kept open the door. I love Sheffield Wednesdays manager Carlos Carvalhal. He talks sense and has a clear plan about where he wants them to go. He seems supremely confident in his teams ability. He made the point that they have two chances to seal the final play-off spot and Cardiff just have one. Russell Slades side will have a right go, but Wednesday will come out on top. OLLIE PREDICTED: 3-2Ipswich v MK Dons, SaturdayI hope MK Dons keep the faith with Karl Robinson next season. He deserves it. Its so hard to move forward when youve sold your best players. The way they defend continues to worry me though. Ipswich should have enough to nick this one.I think Ipswich will do well to hold onto Mick McCarthy this summer. Someone with his credibility and know-how will be hot property.OLLIE PREDICTED: 2-0Rotherham v Blackburn, SaturdayI just want to wish Neil Warnock and his wife Sharon all the best. I read that shes been suffering with breast cancer over the last six months. It just proves what a man Neil is and what a strong relationship he has with Sharon. He would have had to ask permission off her to take the Rotherham job, so she deserves huge credit for giving him the green light. Shes obviously the boss!Everybody is different, but having a strong woman behind you has been vital in my career. There is so much insecurity with football management and you dont need that at home. Rotherham can win this one as Blackburn have gone off the boil.OLLIE PREDICTS: 1-0Blackpool v Wigan, League OneThis would be the perfect time for the Blackpool players to give the home fans a performance they can be proud of. Its time they stepped up. I dont believe theyre going to go down, so this will be a home win. I hope people can forgive me for not using logic for this one - this is my heart speaking. OLLIE PREDICTED: 1-0Birmingham v Middlesbrough, FridayIt was a bit of a slip-up for Middlesbrough against Ipswich, but they are a tough nut to crack. Having watched Birmingham a lot this season and the way theyre set up to hit on the break, this could be another banana skin for Aitor Karankas men. Hell be treating this as just another game, but it isnt - its a massive fixture, and emotions will be running high in that dressing room. Will they get the job done here? I think so, but only just. Theyve got such a strong bench - hes got a plethora of riches - and that might just be the difference in this game. A win would set us up for a blockbuster day on Monday, where Brighton and Burnley are both in action.OLLIE PREDICTED: 1-2Also See:Championship tableWATCH: Championship goalsLeague One tablePlay Super 6 ' ' '
